Top 5 Places in Cascais: 1. The old town

What we loved here was the diversity in terms of cuisine and shopping opportunities. Much like the rest of Cascais, the old town is very beautiful, clean and more glamourous than many places in Portugal.

What we loved most here were the tiny shops with locally made products: pottery, jewelry and clothing pieces. The streets are tiny and colorful, and here and there you’ll find gorgeous flowers, as well as lovely views of the ocean.

2. The Beach & Marina

Top 5 Places in Cascais: 2. The Marina

Cascais is the most popular beach town close to Lisbon. Make sure you include the Marina and the beach on your list of places to see in Cascais. We found a cute cafe with a view of these tiny colorful boats.

Like most beaches in Portugal, the ones in Cascais are sandy and sunny for the most part of the year. They are a great spot to relax and take a break from all the exploring. Furthermore, you can feast your eyes on the luxurious houses and sports cars that are part of Cascais’ local charm.

3. Palace of Cascais Citadel

The Palace of Cascais Citadel is host to seasonal art exhibitions and when we visited Cascais, we were allowed to explore some of these for free. Some large pieces were displayed outside, in the yard of the palace, which can also be visited free of charge.

However, if you want to do a tour of the Palace, the price of the ticket is only 4 euros. Take a sneak peek of what you’ll find there by checking out this article. This way, you’ll decide if taking the tour is of interest to you or not.

4. Parque Marechal Carmona

Parque Marechal Carmona is the most beautiful park in Cascais, a large area of greenery, boasting a variety of birds and many, many turtles. Roosters and chicken are wandering around the grass fields, and they make a lot of noise. This is not the place to take a nap.

Top 5 Places in Cascais: 4. Parque Marchal Carmona

We found this park to be very delightful, clean and well-preserved. You’ll find interesting works of art here and there, as well as this lovely cafe, in the heart of the park, and close to the tiny lake. If you love animals, this is the place for you!

Finally, let’s make our way through the park, and to our last stop: Boca do Inferno.

5. Boca do Inferno

Considered to be the most western point in Europe, Boca do Inferno is a very popular touristic attraction in Portugal. Essentially, you’ll find there some beautiful rock formations, where the waves meet the shore and you’ll get the chance to take a few great shots of this natural spectacle.

Want to see something even more spectacular? Check out Cabo de Sao Vicente!

Our final recommendation, if you didn’t pack lunch, we found the food at Rocha do Inferno to be very delicious and affordable. It’s a better option than to go for a restaurant meal in the center, where prices are a bit higher.

Each of our dishes was 6 euros (big sandwich with tuna or pork + French fries and Ketchup). After a few hours of wandering around, a good meal is just what you need.
