One of the most beautiful places in Algarve, Ponta da Piedade is a top tourist attraction. Though there is a general opinion that these gorgeous rock formations are only reachable by boat, Ponta da Piedade can be reached from the shore as well, and it’s equally as spectacular! Here are a few tips for a budget day trip from Lagos to one of Algarve’s gems!
How to get there cheaper!
You may believe the cliffs at Ponta da Piedade can only be reached by boat, but that’s not the case.
The boat tours are an exciting adventure: blue waters, incredible views of the shore, stop for swimming and enjoying the pristine beaches of Algarve. There are plenty of tours to choose from, and you’ll get many offers in Lagos.
However, if your budget doesn’t stretch enough for a boat tour, you should know that it is possible to visit this place from the shore. Ponta da Piedade is about 3 km away from Lagos. There is a mini-train that follows this route during the high season, and the ticket is only 3.50 euros. For more information and timetables, check out their website here. The train has multiple stops, so you may get the chance to explore some other exciting areas of Lagos as well.
The taxi fare from Lagos to Ponta de Piedade is about 7 euros. If you have a bike, you can cycle from the city. Just keep in mind that, like most cities in Portugal, Lagos has many hills. Finally, if you’re renting a car, there is a lot of free parking space, no worries there.
